The North Dakota Real Estate Commission handles all aspects of licensing the real estate agents within the state, and adopts the regulations that will protect the public and promote the real estate industry. The requirements for a real estate salesperson license in North Dakota include being at least 18 years of age and having successfully completed at least 30 hours of approved classroom real estate courses if licensed before December 31, 2005, and having successfully completed at least 45 hours of approved classroom courses if licensed after December 31, 2005. All applicants must successfully pass the real estate exams before being licensed. Salesperson applicants are allowed to take the examination before they have completed the education requirements, but they will not be licensed until after passing the examination. The real estate salesperson needs to successfully complete 15 post-licensure hours of approved courses within one year of becoming licensed.
ND Residents Continuing Education Requirements
Sales Agents and Brokers must complete 16 hours of state approved Continuing Education(CE) courses by 12/31 of every odd year (for example, 2001, 2003, 2005, etc..) *Atleast 6 of these hours must be completed within the first year of each 2 year renewal period. * 6 hours of Mandatory CE education must be completed every renewal period in one or more of the following specific areas: * Fair Housing, * Agency Law, * Risk Reduction, and * Contracts. * The other 10 hours are elective courses. * Courses may not be taken for CE credit more than once during any 2 year renewal period
MN Residents Licensing Info
The following must be submitted for a Salesperson license: 1. Completed License application. 2. $100 Salesperson License fee. No cash. Check or money order payable to MN Dept of Commerce. 3. Attach Course Completion Certificates for pre-licensing Course 1, Course 2, and Course 3. Applicant must have passed Course 1 prior to taking the salesperson examination. Course 2 and Course 3 may be completed before or after taking the examination. 4. Attach original passing results for the 2-part written salesperson examination (National and Minnesota State Laws). Exam bulletins and registration are available at www.experioronline.com or 1-800-490-6523. No part of the written exam may be more than one year old at the time of application for licensure. If application for the salesperson license is not submitted within one year of exam, Applicant must re-take the 2-part written exam. 5. The Salesperson applicant must be affiliated with a licensed Minnesota Broker (Corporate Broker, or Partnership Broker, or Individual Proprietor Broker), and the Broker must sign the Salesperson application. The Salesperson must remain affiliated with a licensed Minnesota Broker to maintain an active license. Non-Resident Applicant who holds Active License in Reciprocal State The following must be submitted for a non-resident Salesperson License, if the applicant holds an active license in a reciprocal state at the time the Minnesota application is submitted: 1. Completed License application. 2. $100 Salesperson License fee. No cash. Check or money order payable to MN Dept of Commerce. 3. To take advantage of reciprocal terms, the Applicant must hold an active license in one of the following reciprocal states: Colorado, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Wisconsin. 4. Attach a Letter of Certification (no more than 90 days old), documenting that the applicant currently holds an active Salesperson license in IA, NE, ND, OK, SD or WI, or& an active Broker's Associate license in Colorado. 5. Applicants with active Wisconsin license: Attach a Course Completion Certificate documenting completion of a Minnesota salesperson course of at least 13 hours. 6. Applicants with active CO, IA, NE, ND, OK, or SD license: No additional education required. 7. Applicants with active Wisconsin license: Attach original passing results for the Minnesota State Laws portion of the written examination. Applicants with active CO, IA, NE, ND, OK, or SD license: No additional examination required. 9. MN Residents Continuing Education Requirements
All real estate salespersons and all real estate brokers shall be required to successfully complete 30 hours of real estate continuing education, either as a student or a lecturer, in courses of study approved by the commissioner, during the initial license period and during each succeeding 24-month license period. At least 15 of the 30 credit hours must be completed during the first 12 months of the 24-month licensing period. Licensees may not claim credit for continuing education not actually completed as of the date their report of continuing education compliance is filed. As part of the continuing education requirements of this section, the commissioner shall require that all real estate brokers and salespersons receive (1) at least one hour of training during each license period in courses in laws or regulations on agency representation and disclosure; and (2) at least one hour of training during each license period in courses in state and federal fair housing laws, regulations, and rules, other antidiscrimination laws, or courses designed to help licensees to meet the housing needs of immigrant and other underserved populations. Clauses (1) and (2) do not apply to real estate salespersons and real estate brokers engaged solely in the commercial real estate business who file with the commissioner a verification of this status.
